Dr. Anthony Smith was born in Cape Town, and is privileged to provide health care in Sea Point, the area in which he grew up and spent his formative years.

Dr. Anthony Smith completed his medical studies (MBChB) at the University of Cape Town, and thereafter worked for a further six months in Pediatrics at Red Cross Hospital, achieving a Diploma in Child Health through the College of Paediatrician’s of South Africa. (DCH.SA) He also completed six months in Emergency Medicine at Groote Schuur Hospital.

He subsequently spent five years in the United Kingdom completing a vocational training as a Family Physician as well as pursuing further sub-specialty training in the medical care of the Elderly achieving a Diploma in Geriatric Medicine through the Royal College of Physicians. (DGM) While in the United Kingdom, he took time off clinical medicine to pursue a year studying the intersection between the Humanities and Health, with a Masters in Medical Anthropology (Msc.Med.Anthro) at University College London (UCL).

Thereafter Dr. Smith returned to South Africa to commence practice as a Family Doctor where has been providing integrated primary care for 18 years. During this time he has achieved a Masters in Family Medicine – Cum Lauda (MFamMed) at the University of Cape Town, and has been teaching in the Department of Family Medicine at UCT for 15 years. Dr. Smith has been increasingly involved with Sexual Medicine during the last few years, achieving a Fellowship through the European Committee of Sexual Medicine (ESSM) and is currently the President of the Southern African Sexual Health Association (SASHA).
